Job description

The Area Superintendent will oversee assigned Areas of the on‑site construction of data center projects, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency in all construction phases. They will be responsible for managing the daily operations, coordinating with subcontractors, and ensuring that all aspects of the project adhere to design specifications, timelines, and budgets of the assigned Area or assigned trade packages. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in managing large‑scale, mission‑critical data center scopes of work and a strong background in construction management.

Leadership And Supervision
  • Lead assigned Area construction activities for the data center project from inception to completion.
  • Oversee and manage multiple subcontractors, labor, and construction staff to ensure safe, productive and quality work.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for the Area trades, while ensuring open communication with the entire team and work in conjunction with the General Superintendent to resolve conflicts and issues as they arise.
Project Management
  • Collaborate with the Project General Superintendent and other team members to ensure project scope, schedule, and budget are maintained.
  • Monitor daily construction activities, including scheduling, inspections, quality control, and productivity for all assigned Areas.
  • Ensure all project milestones and deadlines are met by managing resource allocation and construction sequencing.
Safety And Compliance
  • Enforce compliance with all safety regulations and protocols, conduct regular safety meetings and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company safety and quality standards.
Quality Control
  • Inspect all construction activities, for the assigned Areas, to ensure high‑quality workmanship and compliance with the project’s design and specifications.
  • Ensure that all systems (electrical, HVAC, fire suppression, etc.) are installed and integrated correctly to meet the operational requirements of a mission‑critical data center.
  • Address any issues or deviations from the plans, coordinating with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to implement solutions.
Scheduling And Coordination
  • Develop and maintain detailed look‑ahead construction schedules, ensuring coordination between trades and minimal disruption to other site activities.
  • In conjunction with the Project General Superintendent, coordinate site logistics, including material deliveries, equipment staging, and manpower allocation.
  • Develop relationships with clients, architects, and engineers to ensure the smooth execution of the project and information flow.
Documentation And Reporting
  • Maintain detailed daily reports on site progress, issues, and manpower for all assigned Areas.
  • Ensure as‑built documentation is kept up to date and accurate.
  • Report regularly to the Project General Superintendent and Project Team on project status, risks, and challenges.
Qualifications
Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years as an Area Superintendent on large‑scale data center or mission‑critical projects.
Technical Skills
  • Knowledgeable in construction scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project, Touchplan etc.).
  • Has knowledge of data center‑specific systems, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire suppression, and security systems.
  • Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and project management platforms (ACC Build, Procore, PlanGrid, etc.).
Certifications
  • OSHA 30‑hour, CPR, First Aid. LEED AP or PMP certification is a plus.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required based on experience.
Work Environment
  • This position requires extended periods on the job site and may involve night and weekend work based on project needs.
  • Frequent travel may be required for out‑of‑town projects.
  • This role may experience periods of high‑pressure environments associated with construction and the candidate should have the temperament to manage themselves and others.
