Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking an experienced Structural Business Class Lead in Dallas, TX. This role anchors the growth, operations and technical leadership of the structural team within HDR's Building Engineering Services Group.

You will mentor staff, manage budgets and coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality structural design solutions for complex facilities. As a key HDR leader, you will foster client relationships, oversee scope development and ensure adherence to evolving

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field.
  • 10+ years of experience with a strong track record in leading structural teams.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules and client relations.
  • Active professional registration and a commitment to HDR values.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

The Structural Business Class Lead is responsible for the growth, operations and technical leadership of the structural team which encompasses design, staff development and mentoring, workload management, profitability, morale, and quality control. In addition, the Section Manager will be responsible for building strong external and internal client relationships with other HDR business group leadership as well as participation in marketing and project planning and serving as a representative of HDR in the local industry.

This position will perform the following activities and tasks:

  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing and client development activities.
  • Manage the technical and operational activities of the structural section.
  • Prepare/review project budgets and scopes for the structural section and track budget status.
  • Schedule and coordinate all work performed inside the section
  • Establish work priorities and project assignments for staff.
  • Monitor scope of work and scope changes.
  • Facilitate and encourage coordination with other discipline groups.
  • Conduct interviews in support of the hiring of new staff for the section and provide new employee mentoring.
  • Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews.
  • Schedule and conduct section meetings to discuss productivity, workload and quality control issues.
  • Advance the skill level of personnel through training, education, experience, etc.
  • Coordinate with the structural section managers of other business group locations to review workload, project status, and staffing requirements.
  • Prepare/review structural engineering scope of work and budgets/estimates for proposals.
  • Monitor changes in codes, regulations and client standards and keep staff up to date on current industry practices
  • Implement any required changes into the structural design standards, procedures, and deliverables.
  • Perform quality control reviews.
  • Serve as a Project Manager occasionally and/or Task Lead when applicable.
  • Perform project engineer duties when required.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • 10 years of experience
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
