Job summary

HDR invites a Structural Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services group in Dallas, contributing to critical infrastructure projects across health, civic, education, and science/technology sectors.

You will model structures in Revit, perform gravity and lateral analyses, and help develop drawings and specifications while mentoring junior staff and coordinating with multiple disciplines to ensure project success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is required.
  • PE license recognized by the licensing board is required.
  • Previous structural engineering experience is required.
  • Proficiency with Revit and analytical software (e.g., RAM, ETABS, SAFE) is expected.
  • Experience in an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Have proficient understanding of building gravity and lateral analysis for steel, concrete, and masonry systems.
  • Be proficient in the use of Revit to model the building elements you design.
  • Design engineering systems for large complex buildings in Health, Civic, Education and/or Science/Technology sectors.
  • Review structural documents for conflicts and coordinate resolutions with other disciplines.
  • Mentor younger staff on contract document development, performing calculations, and code interpretations.
  • Develop drawings, write and edit structural specifications, select procedures and materials, and perform calculations.
  • Communicate effectively to all disciplines on the team.
  • Participate in quality control reviews and collaboratively resolve issues.
  • Respond to information requests, change proposals, shop drawings, and change orders during construction.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Structural Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Have proficient understanding of building gravity and lateral analysis as well as design of steel, concrete, and masonry systems
  • Be proficient in the use of Revit to model the building elements that you design
  • Design engineering systems for large complex buildings in Health, Civic, Education and/or Science/Technology industries
  • Review structural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines and coordinate with other disciplines on resolutions.
  • Mentor younger staff on contract document development, performing calculations, and code interpretations.
  • Develop drawings, write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, interpret code provisions, and complete necessary calculations
  • Communicate effectively to all disciplines on the team.
  • Participate in quality control reviews and collaboratively resolve issues.
  • Throughout construction of the building you will need to respond to requests for information, change proposal requests, shop drawings, and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering; Structural emphasis
  • SE
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Previous structural engineer experience
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RISA, Staad, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
