Job summary

Howard County Public School System is seeking an Area Field Representative to oversee food service operations in a defined geographic area, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local nutrition standards while maintaining safety and quality in school cafeterias.

This role requires extensive supervisory experience, a Maryland sanitation certification, and the ability to train managers, plan menus, manage inventories, and coordinate catering events for diverse school programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of Maryland Certificate for Applied Food Service Sanitation Management within six months.
• 7 years of supervisory experience in large school food service operations with a HS diploma.
• 5 years of supervisory experience with an Associate’s degree.
• 3 years of supervisory experience with a Bachelor’s degree or higher.

Responsibilities

• Instruct managers and cafeteria staff in all aspects of the food and nutrition service program.
• Determine compliance with federal nutrition program requirements and free/reduced-price meal procedures.
• Interpret and implement countywide policies for school food service operations.
• Plan and evaluate menus for use in all programs.
• Screen and process food orders; oversee inventory control.
• Plan and oversee catering events; supervise managers’ performance.
• Maintain liaison with principals; respond to inquiries from community and staff.
• Analyze menus for nutrient content; ensure sanitation and safety standards.
