Job summary

Faulconer Construction is seeking an Area Safety Manager to lead safety initiatives, coach field teams, and champion safe behaviors on diverse sites. You will influence safety culture, develop site-specific trainings, and ensure compliance with core safety standards.

Preferred candidates have 3+ years in heavy civil safety, OSHA 500 and CPR/FA instructor credentials (or ability to obtain within 6 months). The role involves outdoor work and occasional travel to other Faulconer areas.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Heavy Civil construction Health & Safety.
  • OSHA 500 Certification is preferred but not required; obtain within 6 months.
  • CPR/FA Instructor Certification preferred; obtain within 6 months.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass drug/background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site safety inspections.
  • Provide onsite coaching to influence safe behaviors.
  • Deliver safety training (excavation, confined space, fall protection, etc.).
  • Develop AHAs to submit to the GC and officials.
  • Attend required safety meetings with Faulconer and GC.
  • Review plans/drawings to assist in planning activities.
  • Develop toolbox talks on latest trends and industry topics.
  • Perform root cause analyses and share lessons learned.
  • Support safety jurisdictions including OSHA, USACE, and DOT.

Reports To: Senior Safety Manager or Director of Safety
Position Summary

The Area Safety Manager will prioritize our employees' safety, health, and welfare. Faulconer believes in LEADING safety, not MANAGING safety. Working in a team environment, the Area Safety Manager will influence safe behaviors through relationship-building and coaching other employees. Maintains Faulconer's Core Values at all times.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Site safety inspections
  • Onsite coaching and influencing safe working behaviors
  • Safety training (including excavation, confined space, fall protection, material handling, ladder use, concrete,?heavy?equipment & road work)
  • Develop AHA's to be submitted to the General Contractor and other officials
  • Attend any safety meetings that are required by Faulconer Construction and the general contractor
  • Review plans and drawings to prepare plans and assist in planning activities
  • Develop toolbox talks that are specific to our latest trends and industry trends
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis and develop lessons learned to distribute to field employees
  • Safety jurisdictions include:
  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
  • Department of Transportation
Position Expectations

This position is required to visit job sites. You will be working outside approximately 75% of the time. This includes working in extreme cold and heat. Candidates should be able to lift approximately 40 lbs. Though rare, travel to the other Faulconer areas and overnight stays may be required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Heavy Civil construction Health & Safety
  • Knowledge of excavation benching and sloping requirements
  • Knowledge of soil types and requirements as they relate to excavation
  • Multiple Trade Experience (Concrete, Cranes, Heavy Civil, Clearing, Rigging, Landscaping, etc.)
  • OSHA 500 Certification is preferred but not required. If you do not have an OSHA 500 certification, you must be able to obtain it within 6 months of employment.
  • CPR/FA Instructor Certification is preferred but not required. As with the OSHA 500, you must be able to obtain it within 6 months of employment.
  • DOT Roadway experience
  • Valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record
  • Ability to pass a drug screen
  • Ability to pass a federal, state, and local background check
Work Authorization / Security Clearance
  • Employee must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Drug screens are required after an offer is accepted, and continued employment is based on the initial drug screen and any future/random drug screens administered.
  • A background check will be required.
  • A confidentiality agreement may be required.
  • Driving records may be required.
  • Further clearance may be required by clients (i.e. government or military site access).
