Job summary

Higginbotham Brothers (HBC), a Division of US LBM Holdings, LLC, is seeking an Area Operations Manager based in Texas to direct branch operations, optimize warehouse processes, dispatch, and personnel. This role typically oversees locations generating over $30M in annual revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, monitor, and maintain company performance metrics for order fill rate, on time delivery, equipment utilization, and inventory accuracy.
  • Conduct audits to monitor metrics that do not meet company standards or requirements.
  • Utilize metrics to quantify operational performance and develop strategies to drive operational excellence across locations.
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled operations meetings with managers.
  • Resolve operating difficulties and implement resolutions.
  • Assist in preparation of store budgets and monitor departmental compliance with budget.
  • Review production reports, department expenses, labor costs, and other store operation reports.
  • Measure productivity of departments within branch (counter, warehouse, logistics).
  • Focus on warehouse and delivery efficiencies to achieve on-time delivery for customers.
  • Ensure vehicles are serviced and report on vehicle condition.
  • Review product flow for space and labor optimization.
  • Confirm inventory levels and cycle counting processes are maintained.
  • Monitor departmental expenses.
  • Enforce policy with customers, vendors, and employees.
  • Review personnel assignments with Branch managers, aligning with service needs and sales plans.
  • Ensure regular meetings and training with Sales management.
  • Address customer problems to reach satisfactory resolutions.
  • Oversee a team of 12+ associates, including hiring, budgeting, and performance management.

Job description

This position must be based in Texas, with a preference for candidates located in the Houston area.

A Brief Overview

The Area Operations Manager directs and coordinates activities of the branch operations to obtain optimum use of equipment, warehouse process and personnel. This position will need to have or acquire knowledge of the warehouse process, dispatch/transportation process, counter sales process, and product knowledge. Typically manages location(s) with revenue greater than $30M annually.

  • Conduct audits to monitor metrics that do not meet company standards or requirements.
  • Utilize metrics and audits to quantify operational performance and to develop strategies and tactics that drive operational excellence throughout the locations.
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled operations meetings with operations and location managers.
  • Resolve operating difficulties and implements resolutions.
  • Assist in preparation of store budgets and monitor the compliance of each department in accordance with the budget.
  • Review production reports, department expenses, labor costs, and other reports and documents related to store operations.
  • Measure productivity of departments within branch (i.e., counter, warehouse, and logistics/drivers).
  • Focus on warehouse and delivery efficiencies to achieve on-time delivery to meet customer needs.
  • Ensure vehicles are serviced as required and vehicle condition reports are completed and addressed.
  • Review product flow for best space and labor utilization.
  • Confirm inventory levels and cycle counting processes are properly maintained.
  • Monitor operational expenses within departments managed.
  • Enforce Company policy and procedures involving customers, vendors, and employees.
  • Review personnel assignments with Branch managers and make recommendations according to service needs and sales plans.
  • Confirm that the branch conducts regular counter, driver, and warehouse meetings and attend all meetings as required.
  • Work with Sales management to ensure proper communication and training is maintained.
  • Work with customers as necessary to help resolve problems and follows up on customer complaints to ensure a mutually satisfactory outcome.
  • Responsible for overseeing a team of 12+ associates (direct and indirect), including hiring and termination decisions, setting goals, communicating expectations, providing performance feedback, and overseeing budget accountability.

Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience Qualifications
  • 4-6 years operational experience with significant career experience in a fast-paced distribution organization required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of general operations management and financial principles.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with demonstrated presentation skills are required.
  • Proficiency in MS programs, computer based inventory control system (WMS preferred), etc.
  • Other area specific software as needed.
  • Candidate must lead by example and exhibit an entrepreneurial and strategic spirit accompanied with excellent interpersonal skills, strong advocate of promoting quality and continuous process improvement.
