Job summary

National Steel and Shipbuilding Com in Norfolk, VA is seeking an Area Manager 1 to lead program activities in our ship repair and construction projects. Hours vary (rotation) with weekdays and weekends as required, in a dynamic naval shipyard environment.

The position offers a pay scale of $67,000 to $89,000 per year. Typically a BA/BS in Engineering or related field is required (or AA/AS with related experience).

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Science or related field, or AA/AS with 2 years related experience.
• Prior military service would be considered directly related experience.
• Experience managing technical personnel within complex activities or shipboard availabilities.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all project information is entered into management data systems for internal reviews.
• Assist the Planning Department in developing project proposals, job estimates and schedules.
• Assemble, lead and facilitate cross-functional Project Team meetings with company personnel, subcontractors and customers.
• Develop detailed plans to monitor complex work items.
• Identify changes in work scope and reassess schedules and budgets accordingly.
• Coordinate subcontractors and organic trade personnel to meet schedule objectives.
