Area Manager
Amrize, a leading supplier of quality construction building materials in the United States, is seeking an Area Manager to support the Ready Mix product line in the South Maryland Region. Primarily responsible for the attainment of production and distribution objectives for assigned ready mix plants; effective management and mentoring of subordinates to attain quality and productivity targets, compliance with legislative requirements, plant rules, safe work procedures, practices and work instructions; performs various OH&S program activities such as inspections, training and incident investigations; provides plants and onsite customer service; meets financial targets and budget objectives; interfaces with other functional groups to maintain safe and efficient facilities and processes, carries out employees and labour relations activities, as required, works with key product, materials and service suppliers to ensure business needs are adequately addressed, manages operational purchasing requirements, delivers on CAPEX and special projects as business needs exist, oversees materials inventory ordering, control and administration, and works to instil a culture of continuous improvement.
Lead a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company standards.
Plan, direct, and oversee daily operations across multiple ready mix plants to achieve production and distribution targets.
Ensure consistent achievement of plant performance goals through effective leadership, monitoring, and operational control.
Develop, coach, and manage plant personnel by setting clear expectations, supporting performance, and driving accountability.
Maintain high standards for product quality and ensure exceptional customer service across all operational sites.
Manage financial performance including budgeting, cost control, variance analysis, and alignment with regional financial objectives.
Collaborate with HR, Safety, Quality Control, Maintenance, Logistics, and Sales to ensure efficient and aligned operations.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while proactively adapting to new or changing requirements.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and union representatives to support smooth operations.
Promote a positive, accountable workplace culture focused on integrity, engagement, and continuous improvement
Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
Education: Associate's degree or 3-5 years of equivalent experience
Required Work Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience preferably in a building materials, construction or other industrial environment.
Travel Requirements : Local travel throughout Maryland, D.C. Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Proven experience leading multi-site operations in ready mix, construction materials, manufacturing, or a related heavy industrial environment.
Strong safety leadership with a demonstrated track record of building and sustaining a proactive, zero-incident safety culture while ensuring full regulatory compliance.
Ability to lead multiple ready mix plants by planning, directing, and optimizing production, distribution, and overall operational performance.
Strong operational leadership skills with the ability to translate business strategy into consistent execution at the plant level.
Experience developing, coaching, and motivating plant teams, including supervisors, to drive accountability, engagement, and high performance.
Solid financial acumen with experience managing budgets, controlling costs, analyzing variances, and improving overall profitability.
Proven ability to ensure high-quality product standards and exceptional customer service across multiple operational sites.
Strong collaboration skills with experience working across HR, Sales, Logistics, Maintenance, Quality, Procurement, and Finance functions.
Deep understanding of regulatory compliance, including federal, state, and local safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
Demonstrated ability to manage change and drive continuous improvement initiatives in a complex, multi-plant environment.
Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence diverse teams, resolve operational challenges, and build strong working relationships.
Strong ownership mindset with the ability to operate independently, make sound decisions under pressure, and deliver consistent operational results.
