Job summary

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) seeks an Area Engineer (PCE II) for the Clay Center district. This role provides professional management and direction of construction, maintenance, fiscal, and personnel matters for a designated Area, representing KDOT with cities, counties and local citizens.

You will supervise engineers and office staff, coordinate with local officials, and oversee highway projects.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineering License recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions.
• Six years of experience in engineering.
• Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Directly responsible for the maintenance of state highway and KDOT property in the area.
• Directly responsible for the administration of construction contracts in the area.
• Directly responsible for the supervision of Construction Engineers, one Maintenance Superintendent, and one Area Office Manager.
• Meets with local government officials to address needs in relation to the state highway system.
• Assists KDOTs Bureau of Design in developing scope for state highway projects.
• Attends training pertinent to the proper performance of the duties assigned.
• Provides guidance to the administrative personnel in the Area for fiscal functions, including purchases, vendor payments, capital and consumable inventories to assure agency guidelines are followed.
