RogueSearch seeks an Area Construction Manager to lead field construction across multiple residential communities in the Hampton Roads area. You will partner with Division Construction Managers to keep communities on schedule and aligned with quality guidelines for on-time home delivery.

The role requires hands-on leadership, direct supervision of superintendents, and close coordination with public agencies, trades, and internal departments to ensure safety, compliance, and profitability.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience managing stick frame / residential construction projects.
  • 2+ years in a coaching, supervisory or management-level position.
  • Demonstrated experience in training and coaching.
  • Ability to converse with customers and all levels of management.
  • Experience delivering excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge of Virginia municipal permitting and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct construction activities in the field through Superintendents.
  • Manage profitability by controlling costs and reviewing field purchase orders.
  • Interface with public agencies for permits and approvals.
  • Coordinate with municipal bodies, utilities, and land development.
  • Oversee field operations, production times, and quality control for occupancy.
  • Set build times and provide schedules to meet deadlines.
  • Ensure safety standards per OSHA and state regulations.
  • Handle escalated issues with subcontractors.
  • Respond to customer feedback and survey cards.
  • Ensure all work meets contract specs and is 100% complete.
  • Visit job sites to spot check quality and policy enforcement.
  • Interview, hire, train, and manage employees; evaluate performance.

What you’ll do as the Area Construction Manager:
  • The Area Construction Manager manages and partners with the Construction Managers within the Division to ensure that the production of each community is progressing on schedule and within our strict quality guidelines for the on-time delivery of homes.
Responsibilities of the Area Construction Manager:
  • Plan and direct construction activities in the field either directly or through utilizing your Superintendents
  • Responsible for profitability of your subdivisions by managing costs and reviewing field purchase orders
  • Interfacing with public agencies in obtaining all necessary permits and approvals; or work with the Permit Department in obtaining these permits and approvals
  • Interface with all municipal governing bodies, public utilities and industry associations; or work with the Land Development Department in obtaining these objectives
  • Oversee field operations, productions times, and insure quality control so that the homes built meet company standards and are ready for homeowner orientations/occupancy
  • Set build times on each plan and provide schedules to meet the build times
  • Ensure that assigned subdivisions meet all safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations
  • Handle escalated problems with subcontractors
  • Respond to unsatisfactory survey cards and negative customer responses
  • Ensure that all homes in construction area are constructed to contract, specification and detail
  • Assure that all work that is invoiced is fully acceptable to company specifications and is 100% complete
  • Visit job sites periodically to spot check quality and policy enforcement
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
What you’ll need to be the Area Construction Manager:
  • 7+ years of experience managing stick frame / residential construction projects
  • 2+ years’ experience in a coaching, supervisory or management-level position
  • Demonstrated experience training and coaching is highly preferred
  • Ability to converse with customers, all levels of management and personnel
  • Experience successfully interacting with customers and providing excellent customer service
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of Virginia municipal permitting and regulations
