Job summary

Colwen Hotels in South Burlington, VT is seeking a Regional Chief Engineer to lead day-to-day maintenance for area hotels. You will oversee and assist with maintenance activities, ensure preventive maintenance and repairs are documented, and provide hands-on support to hotel engineering teams.

Responsibilities include supervising maintenance staff, coordinating with vendors, meeting safety standards, managing budgets and capital projects, and scheduling preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Engineering/Maintenance Department leadership - hotel preferred
• Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) is required (May be obtained post hire)
• Strong leader of people
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Working knowledge of budgeting and project planning
• Troubleshooting ability with broad maintenance skills
• Familiar with common computer software programs (Microsoft Office)

The Holiday Inn Express South Burlington/Downtown and the Holiday Inn Express St. Albans, Colwen Hotels Properties, are looking for a Regional Chief Engineer to join our team, leading the day-to-day maintenance operations for area hotels as assigned. You will play a key role in overseeing, coordinating, and assisting with maintenance activities, ensuring routine maintenance repairs and preventative maintenance are completed and documented, providing hands‑on support and direction to the hotel engineering teams, as well as monitoring capital repairs and renovation projects. Ultimately, you will be responsible for maintaining the functionality and safety of the assigned hotels and protecting the well‑being of our guests and associates.

General Responsibilities:

• Oversee and participate in day-to-day operation/maintenance of assigned hotels
• Trouble shoot and repair malfunctions in electrical/mechanical systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing) and other hotel equipment as needed
• Oversee day to day activities of maintenance technicians at assigned hotels
• Follow OSHA Guidelines to ensure safe working environment (lock‑out, tag‑out, maintain MSDS sheets etc.)
• Supervise and schedule maintenance staff
• Interview, hire and train technicians I and II
• Participate in performance management activities
• Conduct ongoing room preventative maintenance program (see maintenance manual for system specifics
• Review maintenance problems, complaints and work order to prioritize and scheduled work
• Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctioning equipment and mechanical systems
• Inspect property to identify potential and current needs
• Estimate department expenditures for budget purposes and assist with capital budget process
• Solicit contractor bids and evaluate proposals
• Ensure signed vendor agreement and Certificate of Insurance (COI) or in place prior to commencement of work
• Coordinate with local health, safety, fire and building inspectors to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations
• Perform preventative maintenance assignments on a scheduled and as needed basis
• Service hotel pool to include adjusting chemical levels and cleaning filters (not all inclusive)
• Complete maintenance logs as required
• Maintain building exterior not serviced by contractor (e.g., snow removal, lawn care, painting)
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• 3+ years of Engineering/Maintenance Department leadership - hotel preferred
• Strong leader of people
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Working knowledge of kitchen equipment/refrigeration preferred
• Working knowledge of fire protection and life safety systems
• Requires building/facility maintenance knowledge, common accepted industry practices pertaining to maintenance,
• Knowledge of budgeting and project planning
• Trouble‑shooting ability with working knowledge in electric, painting, carpentry, landscaping, equipment, pools/hot tubs, and tool usage.
• Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) is required (May be obtained post hire)
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Familiar with common computer software programs(e.g. Microsoft office)
• Must have reliable transportation to travel between hotels
• Must be willing to work rotational work schedule, based on needs of hotels
