GARNEY CONSTRUCTION

Position: Area Accounting Manager in North Kansas City, MO

As an Area Accounting Manager, you will manage financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring compliance with company policies. Your responsibilities include analyzing financial results, budgets, forecasts, variances, and trends to support project leadership. You will develop financial models, support project profitability, planning, forecasting, and collaborate with teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and cost management.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Create, review, and update project reports for operational and financial performance.
• Establish standard costs and collect operational data for cost determination.
• Support policies for cost analysis, reporting standards, and trend forecasting.
• Analyze results, monitor variances, identify trends, and review with leadership to recommend actions.
• Report on trends across work types, clients, teams, and contracts.
• Reconcile transactions and ensure data accuracy.
• Act as the main contact for financial audits and internal controls.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support monthly project reviews and develop budget and cost reports.
• Participate in business cycles like WIP, billings, collections, and quarterly reports.
• Assist in managing cash flow and project contracts.
• Support project accountants with billing, AP, and rebate programs.
• Assist with bonding and insurance support as needed.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field.
• 5-7 years of experience in financial reporting or data analysis.
• Ability to travel to project sites.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in teams to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of ERP systems, project management, and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
• Experience in construction, engineering, or related industry.
