Job summary

UIC Bowhead Transport, LLC seeks an experienced Vessel Captain/Master to command a landing craft in Alaska’s challenging waters, including the Bering, Chukchi, Beaufort seas and the Gulf of Alaska.

The ideal candidate will lead safely and decisively, managing crew, regulatory compliance, navigation, and maintenance while coordinating with engineering and shore teams to ensure mission success in remote, ice-prone environments.

Qualifications

• USCG Master License valid for vessel size.
• Master of tow endorsement preferred.
• STCW certification current.
• TWIC and USCG medical certificate current.
• Proven Master/Captain on large vessels.
• Knowledge of cold weather operations, heavy seas and remote operations.
• Ability to pass drug screen, background check and medical clearance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as master with full responsibility for safe navigation and operation.
• Plan voyages in Alaska waters including ice-affected regions.
• Maintain readiness for weather extremes and remote routes.
• Ensure USCG compliance and company safety policies.
• Conduct safety drills and maintain a strong safety culture onboard.
• Oversee vessel inspections, audits, and required documentation.
• Lead, mentor, and manage crew with proper watch schedules.
• Maintain watchkeeping standards and navigational accuracy.
• Coordinate with Chief Mate/Chief Engineer and shore management for maintenance.
• Maintain voyage logs and safety reports.
