Job summary

The Division of Library and Information Services, Bureau of Archives and Records Management of the State of Florida is seeking an Archivist I for open competitive recruitment in Tallahassee. The role involves reference services, archival research, and public programs related to historical records.

Minimum qualifications include six years of professional archives or library experience (master’s degree may substitute).

Qualifications

  • Six years of professional archives or library experience; master’s degree may substitute for the required years of experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance to Archives researchers in accordance with professional archival reference and access standards and practices; assists in identifying and selecting archival records and using finding aids; handles and uses archival collections; uses online resources.
  • Performs historical and archival research to respond to information requests from State Archives historical records collections; prepares replies for these requests.
  • Provides group instruction to professional and history-allied organizations and the general public on the Archives’ collections, services and procedures.
  • Assists in developing finding aids, written procedures and other archives policies in line with standards and practices.
  • Performs other work-related duties as required.

Education

Master’s degree in archives, records management, history, public history, library science, or one of the social sciences
