Job summary

Harvard Radcliffe Institute seeks an Archivist passionate about archival processing, inclusive description, and equitable representation. You will work with analog and born-digital materials, creating processing plans and leading descriptive projects.

Reporting to the Lead Processing Archivist, you will join a collaborative team of archivists and catalogers, supporting research access and public engagement across Harvard Library programs.

Qualifications

• ALA-accredited MLS with a concentration in archives management, or an MA in history or a related field.
• Two or more years of experience processing archival materials in various formats.
• Knowledge of national data content and structure standards related to archival control (DACS, EAD, MARC, LCSH, AAT).
• Proficiency with computer technology (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, XML).
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Appraises, arranges, describes, preserves, and catalogs archival collections in both analog and digital formats.
• Determines appropriate levels of arrangement and description to ensure flexible processing.
• Creates DACS-compliant archival descriptions, including finding aids and catalog records.
• May undertake photo cataloging, web archiving, metadata remediation, outreach, and exhibit work.
• Covers regular shifts at the Schlesinger Library reference desk.
• May supervise student assistants and interns, including recruitment and training.
