Job summary

The University of Rochester's School of Medicine and Dentistry offers a semester-long Archives Intern position in the Institute for Innovative Education. You will learn archival processing from assessment to creating a finding aid in ArchivesSpace, and curate a digital collection from the History of Medicine collection for New York Heritage.

You will digitize materials, create metadata, and promote the work via blog posts and social media in coordination with the library’s team.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required; or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Enrolled in MLIS or related degree program preferred; internship/practicum encouraged.
  • Experience with archival materials and descriptive standards is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process the Visiting Nurses Association of Rochester, NY papers according to national archival standards: rehouse the collection for preservation, arrange and describe the collection, and create a DACS-compliant finding aid in ArchivesSpace.
  • Curate a digital collection from History of Medicine’s Atwater American Popular Medicine Collection ephemera to be added to New York Heritage.
  • Digitize items according to New York Heritage guidelines and create metadata.
  • Promote the work through blog posts and social media in collaboration with Miner Library’s team.
  • Assist with additional archival duties as assigned.
