Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking Architecture Interns to collaborate with project teams of architects, designers and engineers on a variety of programs including corporate, healthcare, research, institutional, and mission critical facilities.

Responsibilities include design, construction documentation and specification development, as well as client presentations, programming, shop drawing reviews and construction administration.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or related field from an accredited program.
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary/technical program related to the work.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Active campus/community involvement and strong communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with leadership potential and a willingness to learn.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States full-time without sponsorship.

Description

Our Architecture Interns work collaboratively with our project teams of architects, designers and engineers to create world class design on a variety of projects including corporate, healthcare, research, institutional, mission critical, manufacturing, retail, hospitality, airport, government, and military. Primary responsibilities include design, construction documentation and specification development. Other responsibilities may include client presentations, programming, shop drawing review and construction administration. Assists in developing solutions to technical problems. Other duties as assigned. A co-op will work collaboratively with our teams to support a Burns & McDonnell department, global practice or regional office. To effectively provide support and assistance with requests driving our business strategy, candidates must be currently enrolled in a formal co‑op program, and available to work full time during the fall 2026 academic term. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Global Facilities

The Global Facilities group is responsible for the planning and design of manufacturing facilities, district energy systems, data centers and mission‑critical facilities. This includes work across diverse industries, including aerospace, space and defense, food and beverage, life sciences and technology, consumer products, healthcare and advanced manufacturing, guiding projects from site selection through startup.

Qualifications
  • Pursuit of Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or a related field from a recognized, accredited program.

  • Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post‑secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Self‑motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Compensation

$17.75-28.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.

Interns may participate in our 401(k) retirement program provided plan eligibility requirements are met. Sick leave is accrued based on the actual number of hours worked.
