Job description

Crafted to Measure is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Architectural Millwork Engineer / Drafter to join our team.

We specialize in custom architectural millwork and commercial interiors where no two projects are exactly alike. Our work requires more than simply producing drawings—we need someone who can take architectural plans, field information, specifications, and project requirements and turn them into clear, accurate, buildable information for both our customers and our production team.

This position plays a critical role between Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, and Production. The right person will be technically capable, organized, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of their work from initial project review through approved production drawings.

Responsibilities
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project information.
  • Develop accurate shop drawings and submittal packages for custom architectural millwork.
  • Engineer cabinetry, casework, wall panels, reception desks, specialty millwork, and other custom fabricated products.
  • Translate architectural design intent into practical, manufacturable solutions.
  • Coordinate dimensions, materials, hardware, finishes, construction methods, and installation requirements.
  • Identify missing information, conflicts, and constructability concerns before they reach production.
  • Participate in project handoff meetings with estimating and project management.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to resolve RFIs, design questions, and customer comments.
  • Incorporate returned submittal comments accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform or review field measurements when required.
  • Create accurate material takeoffs and information needed for procurement.
  • Develop complete production packages that provide the shop with the information necessary to fabricate efficiently.
  • Communicate directly with production personnel when clarification or problem-solvingis required.
  • Maintain drawing revisions and project documentation throughout the engineering process.
  • Help improve engineering standards, templates, libraries, and workflows as our company continues to grow.
Qualifications

We are looking for someone who combines technical ability with practical problem-solving.

The strongest candidates will have:

  • Experience with architectural millwork, cabinetry, casework, commercial interiors, or aclosely related field.
  • Experience producing detailed shop drawings from architectural construction documents.
  • Strong CAD and/or millwork engineering software experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, elevations, sections, details, and specifications.
  • An understanding of cabinetry and millwork construction methods.
  • An understanding of materials, hardware, fasteners, and fabrication processes.
  • Strong dimensional and spatial reasoning.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to recognize problems and ask questions before they become expensive mistakes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with Project Management and Production.

Experience with AWI standards, CNC-driven manufacturing, ERP systems, automated engineering workflows, or commercial architectural millwork is a plus.

Additional Information
What Success Looks Like

A successful engineer at Crafted to Measure doesn't simply complete drawings. You will be expected to produce information that is:

  • Accurate — dimensions, materials, hardware, and construction details are correct.
  • Buildable — production can manufacture the product without having to redesign it on the shop floor.
  • Complete — missing information is identified and resolved before release.
  • Clear — drawings communicate effectively to customers, project managers, purchasing, production, and installers.
  • Timely — engineering milestones support the overall project schedule.
  • Accountable — you take ownership of your projects and follow issues through resolution.
The Person We're Looking Fo r

Our environment is best suited for someone who enjoys solving problems and building custom products rather than repeating the same drawing every day.

You will probably enjoy this position if you:

  • Notice details other people miss.
  • Naturally ask, "How are we actually going to build this?"
  • Prefer solving a problem correctly instead of pushing incomplete information downstream.
  • Take pride in producing clean, organized work.
  • Communicate when something doesn't make sense instead of making assumptions.
  • Can accept feedback without becoming defensive.
  • Enjoy working directly with the people who will fabricate what you design.
  • Want to help improve the systems and processes around you.

We are a growing company, and that means our systems will continue to evolve. We want someone who can contribute to that evolution—not someone who needs every process to already be perfect.

Preferred Experience
  • Architectural Millwork Engineering: 2+ years preferred
  • Cabinetry / Casework Engineering: 2+ years preferred
  • CAD / Drafting: 2+ years preferred
  • Commercial Construction Documents: Preferred
  • Millwork Manufacturing Environment: Preferred

Equivalent experience will be considered. Demonstrated ability matters more to us than having the perfect résumé.
