Job summary

Orion RED is seeking an experienced Commercial Millwork/Casework Manufacturing Engineer to create precise fabrication drawings, cut lists, and production files for custom commercial casework, architectural millwork, and fabricated metal components.

The ideal candidate will convert architectural drawings and design concepts into production documentation, coordinating with project teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and meet project requirements.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in 3D AutoCAD required.
  • Ability to read architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial cabinet construction and woodworking fabrication methods.
  • Experience creating fabrication drawings, cut lists, and CNC cut files for sheet metal and tube steel fabrication.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication methods including forming, welding, machining, and metal assembly.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, hardware, and installation techniques.
  • Knowledge of commercial cabinet installation and field construction practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 3D AutoCAD fabrication drawings for casework, millwork, and metal components.
  • Develop accurate cut lists, material takeoffs, CNC files, and production documentation.
  • Produce fabrication drawings for sheet metal and tube steel components.
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and design intent.
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimators, manufacturing personnel, and installers to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts prior to production.
  • Verify dimensions, materials, hardware, joinery, weldments, and fabrication details.
  • Ensure drawings comply with company standards and project specifications.
  • Provide technical support to production and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Revise drawings for field conditions, client revisions, and engineering changes.
  • Work with woodworking, metal fabrication, and finishing departments to optimize efficiency and quality.

About the Position:

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Commercial Millwork/Casework Manufacturing Engineer to join our team.

This role is responsible for creating accurate fabrication drawings, cut lists, and production files for the manufacturing of custom commercial casework, architectural millwork, and fabricated metal components.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of woodworking, sheet metal / tube steel fabrication, and manufacturing processes, with the ability to convert architectural drawings and design concepts into precise production documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in commercial millwork engineering, fabrication engineering, or production drafting.
  • Experience with custom architectural millwork, commercial casework, foodservice, retail fixtures, hospitality, healthcare, education, or institutional projects.
  • Experience generating CNC-ready files for woodworking and/or metal fabrication equipment.
  • Knowledge of stone fabrication, including countertops, cladding, or architectural stone components, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CNC machining, laser cutting, waterjet, press brake operations, or tube laser systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience with ERP or manufacturing software is a plus.
