Job summary

COAR Design Group is seeking a Job Captain to join our San Diego or Santa Rosa offices. You will create and coordinate construction documents in Revit, work closely with the Design Principal, and help develop projects focused on community impact.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s in Architecture and at least 3 years of Revit experience, with strong collaboration and communication skills. This role is office-based with potential for field exposure and a collaborative studio culture.

Qualifications

• Experience creating and coordinating construction documents.

Responsibilities

• Create design and construction documents in Revit.

To expand our team working out of the San Diego, CA or Santa Rosa, CA offices we are actively seeking a Job Captain. At COAR, Job Captains work closely with the internal and extended project team to create design and construction documents in Revit. Job Captains are intimately involved in the project and primarily responsible for creating and coordinating the architectural set of drawings. In this specific role, we are seeking an individual with experience in design focusing on both form and function to work closely with the Design Principal to help with our community focused projects.

Responsibilities

• Use Revit and Enscape to create renderings and VR walkthroughs
• Prepare drawings in Revit that adhere to office standards
• Assist project team/manager in developing construction documents for permitting, bidding and construction
• Participate in multiple concurrent projects from start to finish during design development and construction documents phases
• Develop and communicate design ideas and technical information related to the project including, but not limited to, design presentations, client meetings, detailing and hand sketching
• Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.
• Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
• Assists in site analysis, research of concept, benchmarks, typology, and precedents.
• Provide input to the design and construction schedule - communicate the technical implications of design decisions
• Responsible for the development and coordination of the drawings and specifications including: program requirements, code and agency compliance, schedule commitments, product research, and building systems
• Organize and coordinate with the architectural and engineering team to execute the work in an orderly, timely, and coordinated manner
• Attend project team and client meetings as required
• Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
• Provide support for any tasks required for the successful completion of the project

Qualifications

Required

• Working experience/proficiency in Revit, and Microsoft Office
• Ability to function comfortably, collaborate, communicate, gain trust, confidence, and deal effectively with a wide range of individuals including consultants, contractors, vendors, clients and the COAR Design Group team
• Ability to conduct space planning, block planning, and adjacencies in coordination with the building program.
• Efficiency in all phases of project development from schematic design through contract administration
• Basic knowledge of building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards is expected.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced design environment with concurrent projects and responsibilities

Preferred

• Ability to use Enscape or comparable software to produce photorealistic renderings and virtual reality walk throughs
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam Studio, Smartsheet, and Revizto

Education And Experience

Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field is preferred.

A minimum of 3 years of experience with Revit and a broad understanding of the software and its capabilities is required.
