Job summary

Spherion partners with a premier Montgomery design firm to hire a Senior Draftsman who will produce high-quality architectural drawings and construction documents.

The successful candidate will translate concepts into precise drawings, coordinate with architects and engineers, and ensure compliance with local codes and standards. A degree and 7+ years of drafting experience are required, with strong AutoCAD skills and BIM familiarity.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Drafting, or related field.
• 7+ years of professional architectural drafting experience.
• Advanced AutoCAD skills; BIM (Revit) experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drafting Excellence: Produce comprehensive, high-quality architectural drawings, including detailed plans, sections, elevations, and complete construction document packages.
• Design Translation: Convert preliminary design concepts, rough sketches, and technical specifications into precise, actionable technical drawings.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate drawing packages with internal architects, engineers, external consultants, and project managers to ensure alignment.
• Code Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure drawings adhere to local building codes, zoning regulations, and the firm’s quality standards.
• Technical Problem Solving: Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues during design and construction phases.
• Strategic Contribution: Participate in design coordination meetings, providing drafting insights and practical solutions.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Seamlessly coordinate drawing packages alongside internal architects, engineers, external consultants, and project managers to ensure project alignment.
• Code Compliance & Quality Assurance: Guarantee that all drawings strictly adhere to applicable local building codes, zoning regulations, and the firm’s stringent quality standards.
• Technical Problem Solving: Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues throughout both the design and construction phases.

Required Skills & Experience

• Education: A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Drafting, or a related field.
• Experience: 7+ years of proven, professional experience in architectural drafting or a closely related role.
• Software Proficiency: Advanced, day-to-day expertise in AutoCAD; candidates with hands-on experience in Revit or other modern BIM platforms will be given strong preference.
• Industry Knowledge: A deep, working understanding of complex architectural detailing, current construction methods, and relevant building codes.
• Analytical Abilities: Exceptional aptitude for reading, interpreting, and cross-referencing complex architectural and engineering blueprints.
