Job description

About Y Studio

Y Studio is a growing, design-driven architecture and design practice based in Gainesville, Florida. Our diverse portfolio includes commercial, hospitality, healthcare, educational, institutional, and custom residential projects.

We believe thoughtful design extends beyond the building itself, creating cohesive spaces that balance function, aesthetics, and the experience of the people who use them.

As a small, collaborative studio, we offer an environment where creativity, curiosity, and initiative are valued. Our team members are actively involved in the design process, work directly with clients and consultants, and have opportunities to see their ideas come to life.

The Opportunity

We're seeking a creative, motivated Architectural Designer or Interior Designer with 1–3 years of professional experience to join our growing team.

The ideal candidate has a strong design sensibility, technical proficiency, and an interest in working across both architecture and interiors.

This is an opportunity for an emerging design professional who wants to do more than sit behind a computer. At Y Studio, you'll gain hands-on experience across all phases of a project, from initial concepts and space planning through construction documentation, permitting, and construction administration.

You'll work directly with the firm's principal architect, collaborate with consultants and contractors, participate in client meetings, and contribute meaningfully to the design and development of our projects.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to conceptual design, space planning, design development, and construction documentation.

  • Develop architectural drawings, interior elevations, 3D models, renderings, and presentation materials.

  • Assist with interior finish and material selections, custom millwork, cabinetry, and architectural detailing.

  • Support furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) selections and specifications.

  • Participate in site visits, field measurements, and existing conditions documentation.

  • Coordinate with engineering consultants, vendors, and contractors.

  • Assist with building code research, permitting, and agency coordination.

  • Participate in client meetings and construction site visits.

  • Collaborate with the team to develop thoughtful, creative, and technically sound design solutions.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related design discipline.

  • 1–3 years of professional experience in an architecture or commercial interior design practice.

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and SketchUp.

  • Strong design sensibility, attention to detail, and graphic presentation skills.

  • Experience preparing architectural or interior construction documents.

  • Understanding of building materials, construction methods, and detailing.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a small team.

  • Self‑motivated, adaptable, and eager to learn.

  • Experience with commercial interiors, finish selections, millwork detailing, or FF&E is highly desirable.

Why Join Y Studio?

We believe the best designers grow through meaningful involvement, mentorship, and opportunities to take initiative.

As part of our team, you'll enjoy:

  • Flexible scheduling that supports work‑life balance.

  • Paid time off and paid holidays.

  • Direct mentorship and collaboration with the firm's principal architect.

  • Hands‑on experience across multiple phases of design and construction.

  • Exposure to a diverse range of architectural and interior design projects.

  • Opportunities for professional growth, licensure, and continuing education.

  • A welcoming, collaborative studio environment where your ideas matter.

  • Opportunities to contribute to community‑focused and mission‑driven projects.

We're a growing practice with ambitious goals, and we're looking for someone excited to grow alongside us.

This is an in‑person position based in Gainesville, Florida. Applicants must be able to work locally. Relocation assistance and employment visa sponsorship are not available.
