Job summary

Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command in Washington, DC seeks an Architect with demonstrated experience leading construction document packages for large, complex facilities. Must meet Basic Requirements and possess professional registration as an Architect (RA) and selective placement factor at GS-13 level.

Experience must include coordinating multi‑discipline teams, reviewing submittals, resolving design issues on site, and mentoring junior staff.

• Experience leading the production of construction documents (plans & specifications) for large and highly complex buildings, including multi‑story office buildings, training facilities, aircraft hangars, medical facilities, and housing projects.
• Reviewing facilities construction submittals for conformance to architectural drawings, specifications, and local/state regulatory requirements.
• Experience coordinating and managing multiple disciplines within architecture projects; able to conceptualize complex design and coordinate creative solutions.
• Resolving architectural construction and design issues encountered during construction.
• Acting as a discipline-specific (architectural) mentor to junior architectural staff.

Responsibilities

Job description

You will serve as a ARCHITECT in the Naval Facilities Engineering Command of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position. The following was provided on the RPC: This position has a Selective Placement Factor (SPF) at the GS-13 level that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates which is CURRENT registration as a Professional Architect (RA) in any state, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your current registration with your application to be considered for the GS-13 position). In addition to the SPF and Basic Education Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience. For the GS-13 level your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1. Leading the production of construction document (plans & specifications) for large and/or highly complex buildings (i.e., multi‑story office buildings, training facilities, multi‑purpose buildings, aircraft hangars, medical facilities maintenance shops, food service facilities, and/or large housing projects), including architectural design drawings, plans, specifications, and design‑build requests for proposal;
2. Reviewing facilities construction submittals for conformance to the requirements of architectural contract drawings / specifications as well as requirements for state / local regulatory agencies;
3. Experience in the coordination and management of multiple disciplines in to the overall Architecture of projects. Must be able to conceptualize complex Architecture and Engineering designs for the project and coordinate creative solutions;
4. Resolving architectural construction and design issues encountered during the performance of construction;
5. Acting as discipline specific (architectural) mentor to junior architectural engineering staff.
