Job summary

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Archaeology, starting August 16, 2027, to advance North American archaeology with a Midwest focus and Indigenous collaboration.

The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop an independent field or lab program, publish in peer‑reviewed venues, and engage with Indigenous communities while following NAGPRA principles.

Qualifications

• PhD in anthropological archaeology or closely related field required.
• Evidence of engaging with Indigenous groups and ethical research.
• Ability to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Develop field or lab projects to train students.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain an independent archaeological research program.
