Job description

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame seeks an archaeologist to join our collegial, dynamic, and integrative four-field department. This tenure-track Assistant Professor position will ideally begin in August 2027. We seek a scholar-teacher with an innovative and productive research program whose scholarship complements or extends our existing departmental faculty expertise.

Our department attracts top graduate students and possesses an active program of undergraduate research. The candidate should demonstrate strong lab and/or fieldwork skills and must be an excellent teacher. They should be enthusiastic about mentoring our highly qualified graduate and undergraduate students towards academic and non-academic career goals.

Theoretical, time period, and research specialty areas are open. The Department of Anthropology seeks creative collaboration across disciplinary lines, engaged scholarship, collegial relations, and the ability to incorporate undergraduate and graduate students into active learning, research, and fieldwork. Those candidates who can involve undergraduates in research will be particularly appealing. Ph.D. must be in hand by August 2027, but is strongly encouraged at the time of application.

Candidates must provide a CV and a 2 page cover letter that includes brief information about research and teaching. Additional materials will be requested at a later date from candidates who move forward in the process.

Deadline: October 15, 2026
