NEW Solutions, a national program linking experienced workers (55+) with federal opportunities, seeks an Archaeologist in Sherwood, Oregon. The role supports the U.S.

Fish and Wildlife Service through the ESP, working part-time at 15 hours per week with a pay of $55.00 per hour. The successful candidate holds an MA/MS in Anthropology/Archaeology and will contribute to cultural resources assessments, reporting, and volunteer engagement across refuges, in compliance with federal laws and agency

Qualifications

  • MA/MS degree in Anthropology/Archaeology.
  • Familiar with NHPA and related cultural resources laws; experience with Tribal Nations.
  • Proficient in Windows, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Cultural Resource Branch with annual PA reports.
  • Migrate data from FileMakerPro and FRED to new systems.
  • Develop and manage volunteer opportunities at refuges and assist with outreach.
  • Collaborate with Tribal Partners to share Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
  • Support interpretation, education outreach, and exhibits for schools and refuges.

For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, technical, and operational support to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions. This position is funded for 520 hours.

Qualifications

MA/MS Degree in Anthropology/Archaeology

  • Experience with National Historic Preservation Act and related cultural resources laws; experience with working with Tribal Nations.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat
Duties

Assist the Cultural Resource Branch with producing annual PA reports, migrating data from FileMakerPro and FRED to new systems. Assist with connecting people to volunteer opportunities at local refuges to pursue connecting with outdoor nature and archaeological opportunities (the Big 6 Priority Public Uses) as described in the Refuge Improvement Act of 1997.

  • Programmatic Agreement Annual Report. Assist with creating annual PA report highlighting Pacific Region cultural resources accomplishments. Create content based on U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service graphic design standards.Collect and analyze cultural resource statistics and data from cultural resources tracking system to analyze and report on annual accomplishments and refuge management goals.40%
  • Migration of Data Assist with the migration of FileMakerPro data into a new system, and other program, like FRED data.30%
  • Volunteer Management Assist with development and coordination of a volunteer program and events connecting people to volunteer opportunities at local refuges to pursue connecting with outdoor nature and archaeological opportunities (the Big 6 Priority Public Uses) as described in the Refuge Improvement Act of 1997.Includes participation in Archaeology Roadshow events, writing volunteer job descriptions, recruitment and administration on Volunteer.gov, interviews, reference checks, volunteer forms, onboarding, training, and retaining volunteers to support resource management, conservation, and visitor education programs and activities as per the Volunteer and Community Partnership Act, P.L. 111-357.15%
  • Working with Tribal Partners Work closely with Tribal Partners to support and pursue sharing of Traditional Ecological Knowledge. Pursue special events, volunteer workdays, stewardship programs, environmental education and interpretive programs, and other outreach programs both onsite and offsite. Programs will highlight refuge management goals, wildlife-dependent recreation, cultural history, natural resources, and others as appropriate.10%
  • Interpretive Education Outreach Assist with the management and sharing of archaeological exhibits for loaning to local schools and refuges.5%
