Job summary

GEI. is seeking an hourly on-call field archaeologist to support survey and excavation projects under the supervision of the Field/Project Director. Responsibilities include monitoring construction sites, conducting field surveys, and recording data with company forms.

The candidate should be fit, organized, and capable of working independently or in a team, with familiarity of GPS units and data collection. Prior GPS experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic archaeology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervised professional field archaeology experience.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Computer literacy with smartphone and tablet applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cultural resources monitoring at construction sites to implement mitigation measures.
  • Conduct archaeological field surveys.
  • Record data for scientific and compliance purposes using company forms and established field methodology.
  • Prepare daily progress/monitoring reports as needed by the project.
  • Use GPS equipment (Garmin/Trimble) for field data collection.
  • Work independently or as part of a team.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Job description

This hourly on-call position is on a project-specific basis and pay will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience. The candidate should be fit, resourceful, dedicated, and organized, and will work under the supervision of the Field Director or Project Director during survey and/or excavation projects. Familiarity with GPS units, completing site forms, and digital data collection are a plus but not required.

  • Perform cultural resources monitoring at construction sites to implement mitigation measures to avoid impacts to cultural resources
  • Conduct archaeological field surveys
  • Record data for scientific and compliance purposes using company forms and established field methodology
  • Prepare daily progress/monitoring reports as needed by the project
  • Use GPS equipment (Garmin/Trimble) and data collection application for field data collection
  • Work independently or as part of a team
  • Complete other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic archaeology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervised professional experience as a field archaeologist, with preference for construction monitoring experience
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, access to reliable transportation
  • Computer literate with smartphone and tablet applications
