GEI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an on-call Field Archaeologist to support cultural resources monitoring on construction projects in Chicago, IL.

The role involves surveying sites, recording and reporting data, and working under the Field Director or Project Director with a focus on mitigating impacts to cultural resources. Candidates should have at least a Bachelor's degree in anthropology or archaeology, one year of field experience, a valid driver’s license, and proficiency with smartphones

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic archaeology, or related field.
• Minimum of 1 year of supervised professional field archaeologist experience, preferably construction monitoring.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Computer literacy with smartphone and tablet applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform cultural resources monitoring at construction sites to implement mitigation measures to avoid impacts to cultural resources
• Conduct archaeological field surveys
• Record data for scientific and compliance purposes using company forms and established field methodology
• Prepare daily progress/monitoring reports as needed by the project
• Use GPS equipment (Garmin/Trimble) and data collection application for field data collection
• Work independently or as part of a team
• Complete other duties as assigned

Job description

This hourly on-call position is on a project-specific basis and pay will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience. The candidate should be fit, resourceful, dedicated, and organized, and will work under the supervision of the Field Director or Project Director during survey and/or excavation projects. Familiarity with GPS units, completing site forms, and digital data collection are a plus but not required.

Minimum Qualifications
