Job summary

G D Barri & Associates seeks an entry-level archaeologist (OER) to support reconnaissance, survey, and reporting in Knoxville, Tennessee. This is a 6-month, full-time contract with opportunities to progress as competency grows.

Responsibilities include field reconnaissance, laboratory analysis of specimens, and writing archaeological reports. Education in anthropology or archaeology (post-graduate) or closely related field is preferred; expenses are allowed for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Entry-level archaeologist position; development toward senior levels.
• Familiarity with field reconnaissance and laboratory analysis preferred.
• Experience with archaeological reporting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Determine whether office review is adequate or if field reconnaissance/survey is necessary.
• Make recommendations for cultural resource clearance.
• Assist in archaeological reconnaissance to identify resources potentially impacted by proposed actions.
• Stratify project areas into sampling units on ground and subterranean levels.
• Assist in laboratory analysis and evaluation of archaeological specimens and write reports.

Archaeologist (OER) A – Level A Knoxville, TN 6-month Full-Time Contract

Expenses Allowed for candidates who meet the requirements and qualifications.

This is an entry-level position for an archaeologist:

Developmental assignments are made to familiarize the incumbent with section 26a of the business act and land use actions.

Progressively more difficult assignments will be made leading to the competency required for an archaeologist, senior.

Determines whether office review is adequate, or if field reconnaissance/survey is necessary.

Makes recommendations for cultural resource clearance.

Assists in archaeological reconnaissance to identify archaeological resources that could be potentially impacted by proposed actions.

Involves the ability to stratify project or activity areas into sampling units, both horizontally on the ground surface and vertically in subterranean testing.

Assists in laboratory analysis and evaluation of archaeological specimens recovered from reconnaissance and using resultant data, writes reports.

Laboratory analysis and evaluation involve identification, classification, and induction concerning how archaeological specimens were used.

Deduction is required in producing anthropological data.

Resultant data is used in the writing of an archaeological report.

Education and experience/certificates, licenses, and registration requirements/other requirements post-graduate degree in anthropology (prehistory specialization) or equivalent, archaeology, or closely related field.
