Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a Summer 2027 Arborist Trainee Intern for on-site work in Boulder, CO. You will gain hands-on experience in tree care, plant health, sales, and client services while working with a tree crew.

Rate of pay is $22.00 hourly. This paid internship offers training, safety programs, and opportunities for advancement within a large, employee-owned company.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and operate as a member of a tree crew.
• Learn to perform pruning and removal services safely and skillfully.
• Identify trees and apply pruning guidelines; prune, thin, and remove deadwood as needed.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees and maintain tools and equipment.

Flexible - We are currently seeking internship candidates for Summer 2027. This is a temporary, full-time position ideal for college students on summer break who want to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Rate of pay: $22.00 hourly

Job Duties

What You’ll Do

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.
