Job summary

Bartlett Tree Experts in Burlington, VT is seeking an entry‑level Arborist Ground Person to join our tree care crew and gain hands‑on field experience in arboriculture. You will receive on‑the‑job training and perform tasks such as pruning, rigging, cabling, removal of hazardous trees, and safe equipment operation (hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts).

A valid driver’s license is required; a degree in arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, or related field is preferred but not

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license required.
• Degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscape Management, Environmental Science or related field preferred but not required.
• Prior tree care, landscaping, forestry, or horticulture experience preferred but not required.
• Passion for nature and outdoor work; ability to work year‑round in all weather.
• Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team and follow safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Learn on‑the‑job training to safely perform all aspects of arboriculture, including pruning trees, rigging, cabling and bracing, removal of hazardous trees, and operating ground equipment.
• Maintain and operate equipment (hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts) and implement work zone safety procedures.
• Support Arborist Climbers and Crew Leaders on the ground and aloft, assist with driving, backing, dumping and parking duties.
• Commit to safety rules and company safety policies.
• Develop a passion for environment and outdoor work.

As an Arborist Ground Person, you will play an important role in

• Learning through on-the-job training to safely perform all aspects of arboriculture, including
• Pruning trees
• Rigging
• Cabling and bracing
• Removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintaining and operating equipment (hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts)
• Implementing work zone safety procedures
• Assisting Arborist Climbers and Arborist Crew Leaders working on the ground and aloft
• Assisting with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties
• Learning, understanding, and adhering to all safety rules and company safety policies
• A passion for nature, the environment, and the outdoors
• Interest in working outdoors year-round performing manual labor in all weather conditions
• A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team
• Prior tree care, landscaping, forestry, or horticulture experience is preferred but not required
• Valid driver's license
• Degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscape Management, Environmental Science or a related field is preferred but not required
