Qualifications

• Completion of medical interpreter training aligned with national standards.
• Spanish bilingual assistant training or equivalent.
• At least 6 months of experience in a health care setting.

Responsibilities

• Concurrently perform bilingual interpretation (English and foreign language) between patient, family, and health care team to ensure understanding of needs.
• Provide consecutive interpretation following national standards of practice and ethics.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of interpretation activities.
• Participate in department/hospital educational programs to maintain skills.
• Work with translators to identify documents requiring translation.
• Refer psychosocial issues to social work or related departments for appropriate response.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as requested.
