Job summary

The Boys’ Club of New York, located in New York, NY, seeks a Deck Supervisor to lead its Learn to Swim program and other aquatic activities for members aged 7–21. You will oversee program planning, safety, and data collection to support ongoing development and healthy lifestyles.

Reporting to the Physical Education Director, you will manage staff, ensure adherence to policies, and strive for high-quality experiences while maintaining a positive, collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Minimum of: one season as aquatics director/deck supervisor at a NY State program, OR two seasons as lifeguard at a camp with multiple lifeguards, OR 18 weeks as lifeguard at a pool with multiple lifeguards.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• Current lifeguard supervision/management certification (recommended).
• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation/Physical Education or related field desirable.
• Minimum 3 years related work experience, preferably with youth.
• Excellent communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Commitment to a collaborative team-oriented management approach.
• Experience with activity planning and youth development.

Responsibilities

• Administer and supervise an age-appropriate aquatics program for members.
• Teach rostered aquatics programs (Learn-To-Swim, Lifeguard Training, Swim Team) and monitor attendance.
• Maintain safe pool conditions and ensure compliance with health regulations.
• Recruit, train, and schedule part-time staff and volunteers.
• Lead staff meetings and professional development sessions.
• Provide accurate reporting on activities and participation.
• Ensure staff devotes to safety and program quality.
