Job summary

Shepherd University Wellness Center seeks an Aquatics Coordinator to lead the aquatics program, ensuring safe operations for a busy natatorium operating 96 hours weekly. You will supervise ~60 student employees, guide instructional programming, and oversee safety, maintenance, and safety compliance.

The role emphasizes risk management, staff development, and revenue generation through programming, with a strong focus on emergency preparedness and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in recreation, sports management, exercise science, education, public health, business, or related field.
• Current CPO certification or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification.
• Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
• Current CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor certification.
• Experience in aquatic operations, pool management, safety, and staff supervision.
• Experience managing large teams, schedules, and safety compliance initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily operation, scheduling, and administration of all aquatics facilities and programming for a pool operating ~96 hours per week.
• Maintains safe pool operations in line with standards and regulations.
• Acts as primary Certified Pool Operator responsible for pool chemistry, filtration, and water quality.
• Coordinates preventative maintenance and communicates needs with facilities teams.
• Develops and oversees aquatics budgets and revenue-generating initiatives.
• Recruits, trains, and evaluates lifeguards and aquatic staff.
• Lead instructor for CPR/AED/First Aid certification and recertification training.
• Develops emergency preparedness training for Wellness Center personnel.
