Job summary

South Suburban Park & Recreation District in Centennial, CO seeks an Aquatics Operations Coordinator to lead daily operations of indoor/outdoor aquatic facilities, ensuring safety, quality water, and exceptional customer service.

Under the Aquatics Manager, you will recruit and supervise part-time staff, coordinate schedules, manage budgets, support programming, and collaborate with district departments to deliver engaging aquatic experiences.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Recreation Program Management or related field.
  • 1 year related Aquatics and Recreation experience; 2 years preferred.
  • Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certificates required upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees facility operations with a focus on safety, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises part-time aquatics staff; manages schedules and timesheets.
  • Coordinates aquatic programs, facility rentals, and community engagement activities.

Hiring Range is $52,364 to $60,555 annually based onqualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, the AquaticsOperations Coordinator serves as the primary operational leader forassigned indoor and/or outdoor aquatic facilities. The position isresponsible for the safe, efficient, effective, and customer-focusedoperation of assigned facilities, including staff leadership andscheduling, customer service, facility operations, water quality,safety, equipment, maintenance coordination, programming support,special events, purchasing, and budget administration. Performs dutiesin a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

  • Oversees assigned aquatic facilities and daily operations with astrong focus on safety, cleanliness, efficiency, facility readiness,and customer satisfaction.
  • Recruits, hires, onboards, trains, schedules, supervises, coaches,and evaluates part-time aquatics staff; addresses performanceconcerns and supports employee engagement, retention, and development.
  • Monitors staffing levels, coordinates coverage and scheduleadjustments, reviews and approves biweekly timesheets, and workswith Payroll to resolve pay issues.
  • Provides operational direction and serves as a primary point ofcontact for staff questions, operational communication, andday-to-day facility needs.
  • Conducts facility inspections and walk-throughs; identifiessafety, maintenance, cleanliness, equipment, and operational needs;coordinates repairs and corrective action with Maintenance,custodial staff, vendors, and contractors.
  • Coordinates facility opening, closing, seasonal start-up andshutdown procedures and responds to urgent operational needs before,during, and after regular operating hours.
  • Oversees water quality and aquatic mechanical systems, includingchemical levels and testing, chemical storage and handling, pumps,filtration, circulation, heating, chlorination, and related recordsand corrective actions.
  • Maintains accurate equipment, chemical, supply, maintenance,incident, accident, and operational records and identifies equipmentreplacement, preventive maintenance, capital, and facilityimprovement needs.
  • Coordinates aquatic programs, facility rentals, parties, specialevents, and community engagement activities in collaboration withappropriate District departments and partners.
  • Assists with marketing and outreach for aquatic programs,facilities, events, and water safety initiatives in coordinationwith Communications staff.
  • Provides leadership for customer service at assigned facilities;responds to customer inquiries, complaints, and escalated concerns;evaluates feedback and recommends improvements to the customer experience.
  • Assists with preparation and monitoring of the Aquatics budget;tracks revenues and expenditures; prepares purchasing and financialdocumentation; manages assigned inventories; and makesrecommendations regarding supplies, equipment, programs, andfacility needs.
  • Ensures monies are collected and handled according to Districtpolicy and maintains appropriate financial records.
  • Ensures staff and facility operations follow District policies andapplicable safety and regulatory requirements; participates inemergency drills, inspections, incident response, and compliance activities.
  • Recognizes emergency and dangerous situations and reacts quicklyand calmly; administers first aid and emergency care as required.
  • Provides backup coverage for aquatic operations as needed,including functioning as a lifeguard, head lifeguard, or swim instructor.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with Districtemployees, vendors, contractors, user groups, communityorganizations, and outside associations.
  • Attends staff meetings, trainings, professional meetings, andorientations and remains current on trends and innovations inaquatic recreation, facility operations, safety, and customer service.
  • Works collaboratively with other Aquatics staff and Districtdepartments to maintain consistent, high-quality aquatics operationsand services throughout the District.
  • Attends work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and rotatingon-call shifts.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Associate's Degree in Recreation Program Management or relatedfield. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • One (1) year related Aquatics and Recreation service experienceand customer service. Two (2) years’ experience preferred.
  • Previous personnel leadership/supervision preferred.
  • Any combination of experience, training and education thatdemonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to performthe essential functions of the position may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO)/Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), RedCross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) orability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certificates required upon hire.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability toobtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • General knowledge of the philosophies, objectives, practices, andsystems of Aquatics, Recreation, and Facility operations management,and their application as related to aquatics facility operations.
  • General knowledge of safety and emergency first aid procedures.
  • General knowledge of customer service principles.
  • General knowledge of establishing and maintaining healthy poolwater; pump and filtration operations and chemical feeding equipment.
  • General knowledge of the planning and organization of aquaticsinstruction and water safety programs.
  • General knowledge of budget planning and management.
  • Skills in swimming, lifeguarding and lifesaving procedures andinstruction and water safety programs.
  • Skills in recruiting, training, supervising, evaluating,motivating employees.
  • Ability to successfully establish and maintain safe and fun pool environments.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and escalated problems.
  • Ability to effectively handle cash-flow and daily cash reportswith accuracy and proper handling in adherence to established procedures.
  • Ability to safely extricate people from a pool who vary in weight,with or without assistance, at any time.
  • Ability to react effectively to all potential mental, physical,and stressful situations inherent to the duties of a First Responder;
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must be able to supervise, coach and evaluate numerous staff oncustomer service, safety, conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel,Word, Outlook and Publisher.
  • Must be highly motivated and take direction well.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced andhigh-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provideoutstanding customer service, establish and maintain effectiveworking relationships, and interact with others in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule which may include some evenings,weekends, and holidays.
Material and Equipment Used:
  • Regularly uses standard office equipment including a personalcomputer, phone, printer, fax machine, and copier.
  • Regularly uses a cash register, credit-card machine, and calculator.
  • Also regularly uses and operates first-aid supplies and equipment,pump and filtration equipment, chemical feeding equipment, variouspool chemicals, circulation and chlorination equipment, and simple hand-tools.
  • This position may be required to drive a personal and/or Districtmotor vehicle to various District and off-site facilities.
  • Primarily works in a busy pool facility environment subject tocontinuous interruptions and background noises. May regularly be inwater. Pool facility environments can be loud, wet, humid, and haveextreme temperature variations.
  • May also work in a comfortable office subject to interruptions andbackground noises.
  • Works outdoors subject to variable weather conditions, ecosystems,and landscape.
Physical Requirements:
  • Stand, walk, swim, and sit for long periods of time.
  • Occasional physical work lifting up to 75 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to use hands and fingers to handle or feelobjects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop,kneel, squat, climb, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer andoffice equipment.
  • Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information. Visionacuity to see close-up and at a distance with the ability to adjustfocus allowing a broad field of vision. Must have 20/20 vision or20/20 vision corrected by eyeglasses or contact lenses.
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain clear and effectivecommunication. Must be able to hear noises either naturally or withelectronic auditory assistance equivalent to that of normalconversation up to 30 meters away. Must understand and be understood.
