Job summary

YMCA of Western North Carolina is seeking an Aquatics Lead to maintain safe swimming conditions and foster a welcoming, safety-first environment. You will recruit and train lifeguard staff, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and build positive relationships with members and program participants.

The role emphasizes leadership, on-site training, and collaboration with the Aquatics Supervisor, with 90% of time spent in direct service as lifeguard, swim instructor, or both, while supporting

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Minimum of 24 months lifeguarding experience.
• Must be able to work weekend and evening shifts.
• Current certifications: Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration – O2, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens (within 90 days).
• Lifeguard Instructor and WSI/YMCA Swim Instructor certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Aquatics Supervisor with recruiting, orientation, and on-site training of lifeguard staff.
• Maintain safe swimming conditions in pool, deck, and surrounding areas.
• Complete safety and maintenance records for pool area.
• Train new lifeguard staff on member relations and YMCA culture.
• Act as Aquatics Supervisor on duty when needed.
