Job summary

YMCA of Greater Cleveland is seeking an Aquatics Group Exercise Instructor to design and lead safe, high‑quality group classes for community members of all ages. The role emphasizes engaging workouts, proper progressions, and energetic cueing in a supportive environment.

You will plan each session’s choreography, vary music to match participants, and maintain positive rapport with attendees and, when applicable, their guardians. A high school diploma is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree preferred.
• Current national NCCA-accredited Group Exercise Instructor certification, or YMCA Group Exercise Instructor certification. If not currently certified, must obtain within 90 days of hire.
• All YMCA employees are mandated reporters of child abuse or neglect.

Responsibilities

• Design and teach effective, safe and enjoyable exercise classes using proper exercise progressions and cueing techniques.
• Plan composition/choreography of each class, consistently changing music and routines relative to the class participants.
• Maintain positive rapport with participants (and parents of participants, if applicable).

The Aquatics Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for the design and instruction of safe, high-quality, effective, challenging, and fun group exercise classes as determined by the class format and description.

• Design and teach effective, safe and enjoyable exercise classes using proper exercise progressions and cueing techniques.
• Plan composition/choreography of each class, consistently changing music and routines relative to the class participants.
• Maintain positive rapport with participants (and parents of participants, if applicable).
