Job summary

Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking a certified group fitness instructor to lead engaging, inclusive classes and inspire members toward healthier lives in our Philadelphia branches.

As part of a fun, diverse team, you’ll plan routines, ensure safety, and provide encouragement while delivering high-quality, YMCA-standard workouts.

This part-time, hourly role offers flexible scheduling, free Y membership, on-site babysitting access where available, and opportunities to grow with the Y.

Qualifications

• Certified group fitness instructor with YMCA or national certification.
• 18+ with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Background in aquatics and swim.
• Strong leadership and commitment to member service.

Responsibilities

• Lead group exercise classes and create routines within YMCA standards.
• Provide support and encouragement to members and reinforce healthy lifestyles.
• Ensure safety and proper technique for all class participants.
• Maintain safety procedures and report hazards or incidents to supervision.

What is needed for this job:

• 18 years of age and high school diploma or equivalent.
• YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification with experience or National certification.
• A background in Aquatics and swim
• Exhibit strong leadership skills; possess a passion for member service, building and maintaining a culture of member service excellence

The responsibilities we will trust you with:

• Set an example of healthy living and personal fitness.
• Prepare routines and/or choreography within YMCA standards.
• Provide support and encouragement to members and reinforce healthy lifestyles.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of members and staff. Notify supervisor of any safety hazards or concerns within the facility.
• Provide excellent service to all members and notify supervisor of member needs, supplies or other items needed to ensure program quality and member satisfaction.
• Ensure that safe movement and technique is utilized by every member in all classes.
• Maintain knowledge of emergency and safety procedures and maintain records on any incidents.
