Job summary

YMCA Buffalo Niagara is seeking an Aquatics Director to oversee all aquatics programs and staff at the assigned location, ensuring compliance with YMCA standards and NYS DOH regulations for safe, high-quality aquatic experiences.

The role leads program development, supervises aquatics staff, and promotes safety and engagement aligned with the YMCA’s mission. The position requires leadership, strong organization, and community engagement across evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in aquatics management or related role.
• Current YMCA Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid (or equivalent), and Oxygen Administration.
• Lifeguard Instructor Certification within 1 year of employment.
• Pool Operator certification within 6 months of employment.
• Thorough knowledge of NYS DOH regulations for aquatic facilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and oversee a variety of aquatic programs (swim lessons, lifeguard training, water fitness, recreational swim).
• Ensure programs meet YMCA guidelines and NYS DOH regulations.
• Lead staff development and evaluations; schedule coverage.
• Oversee maintenance and cleanliness of aquatics facilities; coordinate with maintenance.
