Job summary

YMCA of Monroe County is seeking an Aquatics Coordinator to maintain a safe, dynamic learning environment at the Monroe County YMCA Aquatics Center. You will supervise swim instructors and lifeguards, track lesson records, and support program development and member engagement.

The role involves coordinating in-service trainings, maintaining certifications, and ensuring pool safety while collaborating with the Aquatics Director and staff.

Qualifications

• Must have 2–3 years of aquatic experience.
• Must possess and maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification.
• Must possess or be willing to obtain a Y-USA Swim Instructor Certification.
• CPO and LGI certification preferred.
• YMCA experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the quality, success, and growth of the YMCA Swim program.
• Track and maintain swim lesson records for all sessions.
• Perform progress checks for swim instructors.
• Assist with the scheduling and monitoring of swim lessons.
• Recruit/supervise aquatic staff, review staff manual, administer water skill tests, conduct evaluations, cover shifts, supervise skill checks.
• Coordinate in-service training sessions and maintain staff certifications.
• Oversee pool maintenance/safety and ensure risk management procedures are followed.
• Provide pool schedules and assist with pool emergencies.
• Develop new programs and ideas and engage members.

Job Title: Aquatics Coordinator – Southeast Y

FLSA Status: Full Time, Non-exempt

Reports to: Aquatics Director

Hourly Rate:$18.00

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a safe learning environment at the Monroe County YMCA Aquatics Center. The Aquatics Coordinator assists with the administration, supervision, instruction, and direction of swim instructors and lifeguards. Key responsibilities include ensuring a high-quality, dynamic aquatic program, building positive relationships with members, parents, and class participants, and maintaining a well-trained aquatics staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Oversee the quality, success, and growth of the YMCA Swim program.
• Track and maintain swim lesson records for all sessions.
• Perform progress checks for swim instructors.
• Assist with the scheduling and monitoring of swim lessons.
• Lifeguards
  • Responsible for the recruiting/supervising of aquatic staff personnel:
    • Review the aquatic staff manual annually.
    • Administer water skill tests.
    • Conduct annual evaluations.
    • Cover open shifts for lifeguards and/or swim instructors when necessary.
    • Supervise/coordinate skill checks.
• In-service
  • Coordinate in-service training sessions and maintain and track all certifications of aquatic staff members.
• Pool Maintenance/Safety
  • Oversee and implement protocols to meet maintenance standards based on best practices.
  • Ensure all risk management procedures are followed.
• General
  • Work with the aquatic director to provide pool schedules indicating lane and pool availability every session.
  • Assist with pool emergencies.
  • Assist in the development of new programs and ideas (general member motivation tools, i.e., swim across Indiana).
  • Build relationships with members.
  • Stay involved with frontline staff.
  • Complete other duties as requested by the aquatics director.
  • Enforce policies and procedures for all aquatic staff.
  • Initiate coaching/discipline sessions with the support of the aquatics director and the Human Resources Department.
