Job summary

Butler County Family YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Coordinator to supervise day-to-day programs and activities, with some lifeguarding/teaching and leadership during peak swimmer times. The role supports the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 3+ years in aquatics, age 21+, and relevant lifeguard/certifications. The job involves managing staff, schedules, safety compliance, and delivering quality member service.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in aquatics, required.
  • Minimum age of 21, required.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification, which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid/AED.
  • Current certification for Oxygen Administration.
  • LGI Lifeguard Certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Is expected to cover lifeguarding and swim instructing when a shift is not filled.
  • Performs as Head Lifeguard when on duty.
  • Interview, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel.
  • Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of pool logs and report needed pool maintenance.
  • Create and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules of the Aquatics Center. This includes properly training staff to use the cleaning equipment.
  • Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Review and evaluate staff performance.
  • Submit Payroll Remove and Payroll Adjustment forms to Human Resources in a timely manner.
  • Report to location during “All Director” emergency calls.
  • Communicate necessary pool closures to supervisor, marketing and front desk in a timely manor.
  • Provide quality member service by knowing members by name, displaying a pleasant and professional attitude at all times, assisting members, and referring questions or concerns outside your area of expertise to a supervisor.
  • Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • The ability to accept constructive criticism and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Development of Lifeguard customer service skills and job performance. Set the expectation standard.
  • Assist Swim Lesson Coordinator as needed.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Coordinate aquatic staff for special events, e.g. triathlon, Healthy Kids Day, etc.
  • Act in a professional manner at all times according to the YMCA Code of Conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Aquatic Coordinator will supervise day to day programs and activities.
