YMCA of Northwest North Carolina is seeking an Aquatics Coordinator to help oversee the daily operation of the Aquatics Department and provide a safe environment for staff and patrons at multiple Forsyth County branches, including Jerry Long Family YMCA and Kernersville Family YMCA.
The role includes lifeguarding, swim instruction, staff supervision, scheduling, and training, with a strong emphasis on safety, customer service, and program quality across the association.
Job Location: Association Office - Winston Salem, NC 27101, Position Type: Full Time, Salary Range: $14.00 - $16.00 Hourly, Job Shift: Full-Time, The Aquatics Coordinator assists in overseeing the daily operation of the Aquatics Department and provides a safe aquatic environment for staff and patrons both in and around the pool. This posting is for multiple positions at various branches in Forsyth County, Jerry Long Family YMCA and Kernersville Family YMCA.
Essential duties and responsibilities include lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons for 20 hours each week. The other 20 hours will include the following:
Assists in directly supervising part-time and non-exempt employees and volunteers within the Aquatics Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
A passion for aquatics, minimum of 21 years old with YMCA or other aquatic management experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred (examples include sports management, exercise science, etc.) Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have the ability to communicate with people in a positive but firm manner and possess mature judgment, sound decision-making, and be a team player capable of developing and maintaining relationships with all participants, staff, and the general public. Pursues continual personal and professional development. Is innovative and maintains knowledge of the latest research and developments in aquatics.
