Description

Supports exercise programs and coordinates wellness-related educational programming at Landis
Homes. Works with groups and individuals in Healthcare, Personal Care, and Residential Living through
developing fitness and educational programs. Oversees the aquatics program and may additionally
supervise Aquatic Specialist(s) and Aquatic Assistant(s). Serves as lifeguard or shallow water attendant
and aquatics instructor at the Landis Homes pool.

Position Essential Duties/Responsibilities
•Works with Wellness Manager, Aquatic Specialist and Aquatic Assistants to build an aquatic program
that promotes the positive physical, social, and psychological benefits of exercise for pool participants.
•Upholds FUN philosophy for the wellness department as one of the three pillars (Safe, Fun, Purposeful)
forming the culture of wellness at Landis Homes. Plans, designs and directs staff in fun initiatives to
engage residents and team members in wellness.
•Develop and manage the Landis Homes Swim Lessons program to include hiring and supervising of
contracted instructors.
•Supervises the Aquatic team, including scheduling pool staff hours, monitoring staff certifications, and
assisting in the interviewing, hiring, and orienting process.
•Manages the daily operations of the pool. Serves as the primary contact with outside pool technician.
Monitors and orders chemicals and reagents.
•Coordinates maintaining of water chemistry by testing and treating the water according to a regular
schedule. Establishes and maintains water quality within the parameters of the regulations and
recommendations of the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Maintains proper maintenance of pool
and spa.
•Works closely with the Facilities department as relates to any pool shutdown for major repairs or water
replacements.
•Serves on-call as needed when an emergency occurs outside of regular pool hours. Coordinates
lifeguard coverage in the case of call offs.
•Assists in the development of policies, procedures (SOP’s), forms, documentation for wellness
programming pertaining to aquatics.
Position Essential Duties/Responsibilities
•Assists with the preparation of the pool’s operating budget and capital budget.
•Tracks necessary paperwork and payment from participants enrolled in aquatic fee-for-service programs.
Manages software program to ensure all payments received are returned to the wellness budget.
•Assists in the development and implementation of aquatic group exercise classes. Motivates residents to
use exercise opportunities and participate in classes.
•Conducts orientations to the pool for new pool participants. Inputs enrollment information as needed.
•Trains aquatic staff in on-going pool operations, preventative maintenance of the pool, cleaning duties,
handling and administering of pool chemicals, SOP’s, and navigating the mechanical pump room.
•Participates in continuing education programs related to aquatics and older adult wellness.
•Works with therapists and Personal Care/Healthcare team members as appropriate and consults with
physicians as needed. Provides follow-up to therapists/physicians when needed.
•Works with Wellness Manager and other Life Enrichment staff to plan and carry out special events and
educational programs that promote exercise and wellness dimensions, such as coordinating the
monthly staff “family swim” and special events (i.e. Active Aging Week). Takes a turn staffing
occasional special events.
•Assists in the development of forms and documentation for aquatic programming.
•Assists with leading group exercise instruction/supervision for Personal Care residents as needed.
•Relates well with residents, clients, family members, staff and the community.
•Works supportively with volunteers who assist residents in the wellness programs.
•Participates on the Wellness Committee and supports the chair of the Landis Homes Wellness
Committee, in preparation for the Wellness Fair and other special programs.
•Together with the Wellness Manager, Wellness Coordinator and the Wellness team, assists with
planning of and supporting the Landis Homes team member wellness program.
•Participates in wellness networking with staff of other retirement communities and promotes intercommunity interactions. Coordinates intercommunity aqua volleyball league/tournaments.
•Serves as lifeguard and fairly schedules self as lifeguard to stay within the staffing expense budget.
•Participates in the cleaning of the aquatics center on a weekly, and as needed, basis.
•Understands and models the Honoring Lives principles in leadership, relationships and customer
service.
•Supervises, motivates, trains, and defines the organization's standards and communicates effectively
with staff using team leadership concepts.
•Provides and supports growth and development opportunities for team members.
•Completes One 2 One Conversations with team members (Aquatic Specialists and Aquatic Assistants)
in a timely fashion.
•Communicates calmly and gently with residents, family members and staff, exhibiting patience,
compassion, understanding and sensitivity.
•Participates in training and development opportunities as offered.
•Demonstrates dependability, competence, accuracy and is observant.
•Adheres to compliance policies regarding confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and resident and client
rights.
•Complies with regulatory agency standards and applicable policies and procedures.
•Complies with safety and infection control protocols in all aspects of the job.
•Demonstrates understanding of the Code of Conduct and abides by its guidelines in all aspects of the
job.
•Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Position Working Conditions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Daily walking, standing, sitting, talking and hearing in person and on
phone, vision for close work and depth perception, using hands to feel or hold, maintaining balance,
keyboarding, bending twisting, crouching, stooping, reaching and pushing/pulling of wheelchairs and
equipment. Able to assist residents in transferring from wheelchairs to exercise equipment; able to
demonstrate all exercise equipment and other functional exercises. Ability to swim and pass lifeguard
swim test. Frequent repetitive motion and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasionally works outdoors and
occasionally drives a car.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works indoors with and without air conditioning. Daily exposure to distracting
noise. Daily exposure to chemicals and flammable materials. Daily use of protective clothing, gear or
safety equipment.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications
•Training in Recreation/Physical Education or experience as a lifeguard/swim instructor preferred.
•Has and maintains current CPR certification.
•Has, or willing to obtain, Shallow Water Lifeguard certification.
•Has, or willing to obtain, Certified Pool Operator certification.
•Has, or willing to obtain, Certified Swim Instructor certification.
•Has, or willing to obtain, and maintains Commercial Pesticide License.
•Minimum 2-years experience as fitness/aquatics trainer having worked with older adults preferred.
•Proficient in use of computer and related technology required for the role.
•Good verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills required.
•Demonstrates leadership, management skills, dependability and a positive demeanor.
