Job summary

Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, TX seeks a dedicated biologist or aquarist to provide advanced care for aquatic animals, maintain exhibits, and support nutrition and water quality through SCUBA-enabled tasks. The role requires a Bachelor’s in marine biology and SCUBA certifications, plus First Aid/CPR/AED.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine biology or related field with 1 year experience in a public aquarium or zoo.
  • Open Water SCUBA certification.
  • First aid, CPR, AED and Emergency Oxygen certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced care for aquatic animals, including fish and invertebrates.
  • Clean and maintain aquarium exhibits, work areas, and related equipment.
  • Prepare animal diets and feed according to established procedures.
  • Perform daily maintenance of life support systems and monitor water quality parameters.
  • Enter exhibits using SCUBA equipment to clean exhibits, provide animal care, and/or feed animals as needed.

  • Provide advanced care for aquatic animals, including fish and invertebrates.
  • Clean and maintain aquarium exhibits, work areas, and related equipment.
  • Prepare animal diets and feed according to established procedures.
  • Perform daily maintenance of assigned life support systems and monitor water quality parameters.
  • Enter exhibits using SCUBA equipment to clean exhibitory, provide animal care, and/or feed animals as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in marine biology or related field from four-year college or university; one year of experience working in a public aquarium/zoo; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Open Water SCUBA certification
  • Certifications in First aid, CPR, AED and Emergency Oxygen
