Job summary

Eliassen Group is seeking an experienced API Test Engineer for a contract-to-hire role. The position is hybrid with 4 days onsite in Pittsburgh, PA or Lake Mary, FL, focusing on REST API testing and automation in Java/Spring Boot environments.

You will design test plans, execute test cases, and expand automation within CI/CD pipelines, using Postman, JMeter, and Python to ensure reliability and secure, production-ready APIs.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of API testing experience with REST services.
• Proficiency with HTTP methods, status codes, headers, and JSON validation.
• Hands-on with Postman, SoapUI, JMeter, Ping API, vREST, or Insomnia.
• Ability to write test cases and automation scripts, preferably in Python.
• Experience with SQL databases and API clients.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps, and automation frameworks.
• Experience testing Java/Spring Boot services, AKS/containerized deployments.
• Financial services experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with Playwright or Selenium and Zephyr Scale is a plus.
• Ability to work in high-stress, tight timelines; occasional nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain test plans, strategies, and traceable test cases.
• Perform service-level testing for HTTP methods, status codes, headers, and JSON payloads.
• Validate API connectivity, processing logic, payload transformations, and backend database outcomes.
• Lead test planning in a real‑time build environment and iterate plans as requirements change.
• Execute manual testing initially and expand automation as the project progresses.
• Create and run Python or tool‑based API automation scripts and integrate with CI/CD and DevOps workflows.
• Collaborate with engineering and product to triage defects and improve API reliability and security.
• Document results, report defects with clear reproduction steps, and track to closure.
• Contribute to framework selection and best practices for tools such as Postman, SoapUI, JMeter, or similar.

Hybrid 4 days onsite in either Pittsburgh, PA or Lake Mary, FL

Our client seeks an experienced API Test Engineer to design, execute, and automate testing for REST-based APIs that support mission critical, bi‑directional system integrations. The role focuses on service‑level testing to ensure API reliability, security, and production readiness. You will drive test planning and strategy, write and execute test cases across positive, negative, boundary, and error scenarios, and support both manual and automated testing as the application evolves. The environment includes Java and Spring Boot services deployed in AKS, with backend database validation and future Angular UI components. You will collaborate with a team operating on tight timelines and evolving requirements, and you will help mature automation, frameworks, and CI/CD integrations.

This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. • Ability to write test cases and automation scripts, preferably with Python.
• Background in manual testing with SQL database tools and API clients.
• Exposure to automation frameworks, DevOps integration, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience testing Java and Spring Boot services; familiarity with AKS or containerized deployments.
• Experience in Financial Services is a plus.
• Familiarity with Playwright or Selenium and Zephyr Scale is a plus.
• Ability to thrive in a higher stress, tighter timeframe environment with flexibility for occasional nights or weekends.
