Job summary

SMA Healthcare in Florida is seeking a licensed APRN to provide medical evaluations, treatment planning, medication management, and crisis intervention in an emergency/crisis stabilization setting and related outpatient locations.

The role requires initiative in emergencies, independent judgment, strong documentation in EMR, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team; ready to meet Florida licensing and BLS requirements.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

This is a professional medical position in which the APRN will provide services (evaluation, examination, treatment, etc.) to clients in an emergency or crisis stabilization unit/detox facility, and/or outpatient location. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures, but involves initiative and independent judgment in emergency situations.

Essential Job Functions:

• Providedirect services to SMA clients in the form of medical evaluations,consultations, history and physicals, treatment planning, medicationadministration/adjustments, mental status assessments, supportivetherapy and crisis intervention.
• Performsmedical management of medical conditions.
• Prescribeand monitor effects of medications on clients.
• Educate clientsas to the nature of their illness and the importance of propermedication use.
• Evaluatesclients who are decompensating and initiates emergency medical treatmentthrough the Baker Act or refers to SMA's Emergency Services asappropriate.
• Documentall relevant information regarding the client in the electronic medicalrecord (EMR) including, but not limited to, evaluations, prescriptions,mental status assessment, treatment plans, etc., in accordance with standardprocedures for documentation established by CARF, Medicaid, DCF and SMA'sQuality Improvement Department.
• Participatesas part of a treatment team with nurses, other physicians, casemanagers, receptionists, therapists, etc.
• Participates instaff meetings as required by program guidelines.
• Reports anyserious deficiencies or medication errors immediately to supervisor, anddocuments such on the appropriate Occurrence Report form.
• Attendmeetings, committees, and in-service training as instructed by supervisor.
• Providesshadowing and learning opportunities for nursing/medical students.
• Followsall by-laws and regulations of SMA and affiliated hospitals and providesmedical services as directed.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties asassigned.

QualificationRequirements:

Minimum Educationand/or Experience:

Minimum APRN with a FloridaLicense. Psychiatric ANCC Certification required.Current BLS Certification or CPR Certification as required by program. Additional experience, education, and/orcertification may be required depending on program.

Knowledge/Skills/andAbilities:

• Considerable knowledge of commonchronic medical conditions, procedures, and medications related to thetreatment of targeted population.
• Knowledge of pharmacology,physical assessments, and neurological evaluations.
• Knowledge of treatmentinterventions/techniques and common clinical conditions for children andadults.
• Knowledge of common side effectsof medications used to treat conditions demonstrated by children and adults.
• Skills to monitor clientcondition and assess behavior specific to the age and disability of theclient.
• Ability to follow procedures fordocumentation in client's permanent medical record.
• Ability to maintain composure inan emergency/stressful situation.
• Ability to communicateeffectively and develop professional relationships with clients, staffand other allied health professionals.

Necessary SpecialRequirements:

Possession of a valid Floridadriver's license, acceptable driving record, and proof of personal automobileinsurance if required to drive an SMA vehicle and/or use a personal vehiclefor SMA business. Complete State of Florida mandatory background screeningprior to start of employment. CompleteSMA required training during the first six (6) months of employment andupdated if required. Current BLSCertification or CPR Certification as required by program.

Physical:

Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an 8-12 hour day. Able to liftminimum 10 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate,intervene, treat, and record client health care needs. Fine motor skills forlegible and accurate charting, daily correspondence and presentation, eithermanually or orally. Work endurance ability to work 8-12 hour shifts with ameal break, as possible. Routine 8-12 hour shifts. Hours and days off mayvary. Extra hours may be required. Work assignment locations may vary.
