Job summary

Henry Ford Health System is seeking a Nurse Assistant Apprentice at St. John Hospital in Detroit. The role supports patient care under supervision, participates in care planning, and responds to emergencies while pursuing ongoing education. The program includes paid CNA coursework and a commitment to 1 year of full-time work.

The schedule is 36 hours per week with a 12-hour night shift (7:00pm–7:30am), alternating weekends and holidays, at Henry Ford Health St. John Hospital in Detroit.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of HFHS Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL) and completion of competencies within designated timeframe.
• Ability to read, write and understand verbal and written instructions.
• Strong interpersonal and customer skills for diverse backgrounds.
• Must be able to lift, carry, transfer and move clients if needed.

Job Description

Department: Oncology

GENERAL SUMMARY:

• Must be enrolled in HFHS Department of Labor (DOL) approved apprenticeship program.
• Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN) and/or licensed clinician, performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient.
• Provides input to assist the RN and/or licensed clinician in planning and implementing patient care.
• Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures.
• Recognizes and participates in own continuing education.
• The Nurse Assistant Apprentice follows the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.

The Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship is designed to help those with no hands-on patient care experience or healthcare training take the first step in their healthcare career journey. If you have taken hands-on patient care training courses (Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Tech, etc.) or have hands-on patient care work experience.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Must complete HFHS Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL), successfully pass all testing and/or exam, and complete all HFHS Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program competencies within the timeframe designated in the HFHS Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program.
• Requires ability to read, write and understand verbal and written instructions.
• Strong interpersonal and customer skills required in order to interact effectively with individuals from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Must be able to lift, carry, transfer and move clients if needed

The Nurse Assistant Apprenticeship Program includes a 3-week CNA course paid for by Henry Ford Health, a 1-week Henry Ford Health training prior to reporting to your unit and requires a 1-year commitment to working full-time (36hrs per week, every other weekend and every other holiday) as a Nurse Assistant Apprentice at Henry Ford Health St. John Hospital in Detroit.
