Job summary

Position Summary

The Apprentice Tradesman assists a certified or licensed skilled tradesman in all phases of work associated with a particular trade and is responsible for learning the duties in an apprentice training program. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Receives training in the performance and assistance in a variety of skilled trades duties in an apprenticeship trade program under the supervision of a skilled tradesman.
  • Receives training in the installation of electrical wiring, electrical fixtures and computer cable lines.
  • Receives training in the assembly, installation and repairing of air, gas and waste disposal systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Receives training in the building and repairing of wooden structures or their structural parts.
  • Receives training in the performance of acetylene gas and electrical arc welding on equipment in need of repairs.
  • Receives training in the performance of brick laying and masonry duties.
  • Receives training in the performance of a variety of interior and exterior painting tasks.
  • Assists skilled trade's worker with contacting customers and providing information and schedules for ongoing work if possible or provide courtesy tag when customer is not available.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of basic tools, equipment, and materials used in the various skilled trades; ability to perform manual labor under various working conditions, use hand and power tools in various working conditions, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and communicate information and ideas in various environments; skill in the use, operation, and care of tools and machinery.

General Days/Hours
  • Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Additional hours as requested and/or needed.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
Other

This position is considered Essential Personnel in Facilities Management.

Minimum Qualifications
  • The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma.
  • Preferred to possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.
