Job summary

Wolter, Inc. in De Pere, WI is seeking an Apprentice Technician for our De Pere shop. The role trains you through a 4-phase program to inspect, diagnose and repair material handling equipment, with paid access to e-learning and factory instruction while you work alongside experienced technicians.

You’ll receive a tablet and uniforms, and grow toward becoming a forklift technician as phases complete with wage increases at each milestone.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in a shop environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities daily.
  • Basic computer skills for timekeeping and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all technical schooling provided by Wolter: Classroom, E-Learning, On-the-job.
  • Assist technicians with service jobs as assigned to you.
  • Develop skills to check-in and check-out rental equipment.
  • Develop skills to set up new equipment sold to customers.
  • Prepare stock used equipment for resale per instructions.
  • Coordinate with parts for needed components and prepare quotes.

Are you ready to join a dynamic team and play a crucial role in shaping the future of material handling? We are actively seeking a dynamic Apprentice Technician to join our team at of our De Pere location. Our Apprentice Program is a 4-phase program designed to develop your skills as you work towards becoming a Forklift Technician. Each phase will build your knowledge and skill to inspect, diagnose and repair equipment serviced by Wolter. You will be eligible to earn an increase at the completion of each phase. We provide you with paid opportunities to access E-Learning for various manufacturers, attend training facilitated by our Factory Certified Instructors, and shadow our highly experienced Technicians while working on different types of equipment. As an Apprentice Technician, you will also be provided with a tablet and uniforms to perform your role.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Complete all technical schooling provided by Wolter:
    • Classroom
    • E-Learning
    • On-the-job
  • Assist technicians with service jobs as assigned to you.
  • Develop skills to check-in and check-out our rental equipment.
  • Develop skills needed to properly set up new equipment sold to our customers.
  • Develop skills needed to prepare stock used equipment so that it is ready for resale, per instructions provided.
  • Work with parts department for parts needed to complete repairs.
  • Document all recommended additional repairs found, work with Shop Foreman or Lead Tech on preparing quote for customer.
  • Communicate with the Shop Foreman, Shop Lead, and/or Shop Manager on any unusual service problems encountered or for any technical assistance needed.
  • Complete and submit all paperwork daily for jobs worked on (timecards, maintenance reports etc).
  • Communicate with Shop Foreman and/or lead tech as to status of jobs assigned to you.
  • Offer assistance to other shop techs, as appropriate.
  • Keep shop clean and organized – clean up spills (oil, etc) immediately.
  • Always adhere to safety rules and policies at all times.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Must show the ability to retain knowledge of skills needed to repair powered industrial equipment.
  • Must successfully complete any training courses required.
  • Must be a good communicator – written and verbal.
  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Basic computer proficiency and laptop fundamentals.
  • Must own tools necessary to perform repairs, per our recommended tool list.
  • Must be certified to operate material handling equipment (we will provide this certification).
  • Commitment to company vision and mission.

Physical demands: Employee lifts and carries up to 60 pounds on a very occasional basis, 5-30 pounds more frequently, and up to 30 pounds very frequently. Employee is required to frequently stand, recline (lying on back), kneel, walk, twist, reach, and use feet to repair and operate machinery. Employee is required occasionally sit, stoop, crouch, squat, climb, and crawl. Constant use of hands and fingers to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, computer equipment, and other office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have listening, speaking, and writing skills to communicate with customers and internal staff. (NOTE: Refer also to Functional Job Description document completed by Froedtert WARC for Shop Technician in April 2018). Work environment: The noise level in the work environment can include loud noises, and vibration. Might be exposed to mists, dust, odors or gases, and will be frequently exposed to moving machinery or parts, and power tools.. When performing duties of this job, it is a requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment whenever appropriate - to include (but not limited to) hard hats, steel-toe safety shoes, and safety glasses.
