Job summary

City of College Station Utilities is seeking an entry-level Lineman to perform skilled line work on overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems under general supervision.

This role requires physical fitness, the ability to climb up to 90 feet, and stamina to work in varied weather. A Texas Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days, plus residence within 40 minutes of the Utility Service Center, are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Texas Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Residence within 40 minutes of the Utility Service Center.
  • On-call, weekends and evenings availability.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to perform duties in varying weather and at heights up to 90 ft.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and assist with construction, maintenance, and repairs on overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems.
  • Operate and maintain aerial devices, digger/derricks, excavation equipment, and related electric line equipment.
  • Observe safety precautions around energized circuits and hazardous chemicals.
  • Dig pole and anchor holes; load/unload/install/frame poles.
  • Set transformers and pull overhead and underground primary and secondary conductors.
  • Climb poles with hooks and belts; assist with distribution switching and documentation.
